It was great to see everyone at Wild Nights 2010!
I have finished updating the list of those who attended the event, and everyone's status should be updated, giving those who attended full access to the appropriate forums and the galleries.
By attending, you become a full voting member in MESA, the organization that runs Wild Nights. We definitely encourage your involvement and input! Check out our Forums, especially the Business Forum! You can reach the forums by selecting Members and then Forum. Also, you can set up the forums to function through E-mail by going to the Forums and selecting 'Manage Your E-mail Addresses'. If you have questions about this, please contact Heros via webmaster@wildnights.org.
We're looking for your pictures! If you have photos of the event, please consider uploading them to the Gallery, which can be reached on the website under Community -> Gallery.
For those who attended, we have a special forum called 'Contact Info'. This forum is locked only to those who attended Wild Nights 2010, and is a secure place to post your contact information where only those who attended will be able to view it. It's a great way to keep in touch with those you met at the event!
I'm still working on getting Volunteer hours, meeting minutes from the meeting, and meeting attendance tabulated. Final attendance was 127 people, nearly double last year!
This was a great year, and we look forward to making Wild Nights 2011 even better. We're still in discussions with the park about the date for next year, but will announce that when it is decided.
Thanks again to those who could make it for coming, and we hope to see everyone next year!
Things are really gearing up, and we're in the home stretch in preparation for Wild Nights! Everyone is excited about some of the new things we'll have this year, including actual road signs to direct people to the event, better plans for parking, and of course, Travis is working hard on preparing the menu.
A reminder: Pre-registration will close on April 15, 2010. If you are not pre-registered and paid by that time, you will be paying the full at-the-door prices when you arrive at the event. Also, anyone who wants SuperSponsor status -- please pre-register ASAP, so we can get Crys the Hybrid your character description so she can have your badge ready in time for the event.
As a note, so far we have 86 people pre-registered. Considering that our total attendance last year was roughly 67 people, we have already exceeded that number just in pre-registration, and a lot of people wait until the last moment. We are currently planning for roughly two hundred people to be in attendance this year, roughly three times the number we had last year! Congratulations to our Publicity team and to everyone who helped spread the word!
However, one thing we need to note: the group camp has beds for only 160 people. Many people are bringing tents and staying in those, while others have rented private cabins from the park or are staying at the nearby Belle Star Lodge, so we may have enough beds. However, it is possible we may get more people at the door than we expect. Priority will be given to those who have pre-registered, even if they have not yet paid. It is important that we get an accurate count, so if your lodging decisions have changed (e.g. you selected one of the onsite cabins but will be staying at the lodge), please update your registration and change your answer to that question. We want very much to avoid having to turn anyone away at the door if we run out of beds!
Concessions! We want to know what to have for concessions! Please log on to the forum and indicate things you want us to make sure we have available!
We're excited and hope you are, too! See you at Wild Nights!
Things have been busy with planning for the event! If you want to be part of it, check out the Forums. Also, I've heard some people say they are having trouble figuring out how to get the forum to work like a Mailing List. It's simple -- once you're logged in, go to the Forums, then just select Manage your E-mail Address. You'll be prompted for the address and be walked through the steps of confirming it. Then you can Subscribe to the various forums to access them through E-mail.
Crys the Hybrid, one of our Guests of Honor, has indicated that she needs some lead time on Supersponsor badges, in order to be able to guarantee to have them done by the event. If you want to have your Supersponsor badge, you need to be pre-registered and paid by April 1, 2010. Registrations received after that or at the door will still receive the badge, but we will have to mail it to you.
For the latest news and announcements, check out the discussion in the Forums!
Just got back from Oklacon 2009, and it was a great event! Most of the planning for Wild Nights was sort of on hold until after Oklacon, since several of those involved with Wild Nights also help out with Oklacon.
Now planning can begin in earnest. First, those interested in helping out at Wild Nights in any kind of staff capacity, please, log in, make a post on the Event Planning board, and indicate what you would be interested in helping with. I'll also make a post there -- please just reply to that post so we can keep everything together.
Second, if want to stay in the hotel at the park or rent one of the cabins, contact the park ASAP to make your reservation! Those things fill up relatively quickly as the time approaches, so get your reservation in early! You can find information on pricing and the different options on the Park page. Note that this applies only if you want to rent one of the private cabins located outside the group camp. Staying in one of the cabins at the campsite is included in your registration.
The initial testing phase of the Gallery is now open! Help us populate it with content. You can access it through the 'Community' tab on the Navbar.
Also, Wild Nights Planning meeting is tonight, Saturday, at 7:30, at Heros's House or via Team Speak. Instructions for Accessing Team Speak can be found in the MESA FAQ (On the Navbar, click MESA, then FAQ).
With the introduction and rollout of the reorganized website, we're announcing that registration will be opening at the beginning of September! Pricing is the same as last year. The 2010 T-shirt design is not yet finalized. Workshops may also be added depending on interest and availability of people to run them.
There will be a General Membership Meeting on September 19th, 2009 at 7:30 PM. Physical location is at Heros's house in Kansas City, MO. The meeting will also be available via Team Speak -- instructions can be found in the MESA FAQ page.
An informal round-table discussion meeting has been schedule for August 29th, 2009 at 7:30 PM. Just general open discussion and planning. Available via Team Speak.
We've just rolled out an update to fully correct the case-sensitivity issues with the login system, and with lost-password recovery. Our deepest appologies for the delay in resolving this issue, please let us know if you have any further problems logging in!
The gallery is under development and proceeding nicely, and should be available in the next couple of weeks. In the meantime, though, some videos from Wild Nights 2009 have been posted!
Rock Climbing at Robbers CaveAll login information that we have is updated. If you cannot log in for any reason, please check out the Login page and send an E-mail to the account listed. We want to help you be able to access the site!
The most common cause of being unable to log in is your username not being capitalized the same way you entered it when you first logged in. We can help with that! We'll be making some changes to the registration system soon to correct the case-sensitivity problems.
It was a blast! That's all we can say. Exhausting but rewarding hard work. We're in the process of wrapping things up over the next few days, finishing unpacking and getting all the paperwork taken care of.
Soon we'll have a Contact Information board up, and will have dues and accounts created for those who registered at the door. The Contact Information will be available only to dues-paid members of MESA, so you don't have to worry about the information being posted publically.
All in all, the event was a great success, for the first year. A few issues with scheduling that we'll work on resolving, and some things we learned that will make things go better next year.
We will be working on a photo gallery feature for the website soon. In the meantime, would love to hear people's thoughts and experiences posted to the Open Discussion forum!
Thanks to all who attended and especially to those who volunteered, for helping to make the first Wild Nights a huge success, and we hope to see everyone back next year! If you are interested in being involved, please drop a line on the forums or contact one of the staff. Wild Nights is a community-run event, so we need your involvement, input, and support to make it a success!
